Lesson Plan

This lesson plan can be used to introduce ​I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. The activities used within the lesson are meant to orient and familiarize students with the Maya Angelou and the historical time period in which her memoir is set. The lesson also introduces the concept of Maya's dual perspectives and how to recognize each throughout the piece.
